LABORATORIES QUETTA

Introduction:
|
| PCSIR was
initially established as a camp office in Quetta in 1982 and acted
as a liaison office till 1987 when the project "Establishment
of PCSIR Laboratories in Quetta" was approved by ECNEC at a
total cost of Rs. 55.49 millions. The main objective of the
project is to establish a bi-functional laboratory with a view to
provide technical assistance and expertise to the mineral and
fruit sectors of the province. Due to a host of reasons such as
problems at the bands of local tribesmen, land ownership dispute
etc., the project could not get off the mark till 1992. In the
meanwhile however, some modest but fully functional research and
analytical facilities had been developed in a rented buildings.
The construction of its foods division building was completed in
1997 and the labs. were immediately shifted from the rented
buildings to its own premises. This was followed by the
construction of Minerals Research Division and at present both
these Divisions are engaged in R&D activities with very modest
research facilities available to its scientists. |
