Broadly stated the functions of the PSTC are
To generate  highly  skilled manpower, which interfaces between  technical, personnel and  engineers  by  imparting  training  in  precision engineering  and  thereby serve the industry in a sector.
Providing advisory and consultancy service to Federal agencies, provincial governments, and private industrial units.
Providing  consultancy  and  service  to  the industry  through die, mould and fabrication technology and undertaking trouble shooting jobs at nominal charges.
Providing  repair and  maintenance facilities to the above  categories  of  organizations.
The centre since its inception has registered considerable  growth, recording a steep rise in the number  of  applications  for  admission  received  from  all  over the country. The  centre  was originally  designed  to  offer  a  three  year  course  in  instrument  technology,  but  in  view of the  growing   requirement  of  trained   personnel  in  the industry, the scope of  the  courses of training has been widened with the introduction of two advanced courses  in  industrial electrics and  optical  technology. It  has  also established  a  new section  for  training  in dies and moulds designing and manufacturing,  and the centre now runs a  four-year advanced course in dies and moulds making.
