The Lahore
laboratories complex formerly known as the West Regional
Laboratories started functioning with a nucleus staff in a
wing of the Punjab University Institute of Chemistry in
1953. This nucleus set up was shifted in 1956 to the
present permanent site for which 100 acres of land were
earmarked by the Punjab Government in 1955.
The
research staff of 17 in 1956 has increased to 148
including 22 Ph.D. by 1964. The present manpower strength
of the Lahore Laboratories is 581, half of which is
scientific & technical staff including 43 Ph.D. The
scientists/technologists have been trained in some of the
finest universities/i/institutions in the world.
